this is dedicated to franny, the one who unknowingly opened the doors to feminism to me. i love you franana!!!
even though franny and tumblr bloggers have taught me many feministic concepts, i think ive always been welcoming to the idea of equality, or harmony. but it was just this past year that i started really opening my eyes to it.
to me, feminism isnt about tearing men down and emasculating them. but it is more as taking their fingers out of their ears and their heads out of their asses. its about looking up at that pedastal they were placed on so long ago and building ours up so we finally see eye to eye, and eventually it will be a natural way of life.
feminism is important to society because it teaches men to respect women. while they think their kitchen jokes are witty and hilarious, its damaging and hurtful to women. it teaches us that maybe we just arent meant to pursue something we want and to get back to making the men in our lives' sandwhiches. which is totally and completely untrue!! we should all know now more than ever we can do what we want to benefit our lives, our futures without a mans criticism or consent.
again, feminism is needed to help build respect for women. boys grow up thinking its okay to tear down women and emotionally and physically and it is NOT!! OKAY!!! a recent poll showed men thought rape was okay in several different circumstances when in fact, ITS NOT OKAY AT ALL!!! SEXUAL CONSENT IS VITAL TO SEX/RELATIONSHIPS!!! communication, honesty, and respect. three very, very, VERY important words!!!
oppression isnt something im too familiar worh, but ill write about it anyway for the sake of the measurement. oppression in this context is oppressing women rights that men have. is that right? well nowadays laws state that women and men have equal rights. but in everyday life and conversation, its not the same. this is where it gets tricky. i dont even know if this goes in the oppression category. a man is called a "pussy" for not owning up to something and a women a "bitch" for rejecting a man. also, if gender equality really is achieved, then who are the oppressors? both. then both parties, male and female, will be simultaneously oppressed and i dont think thats possible. can anyone enlighten me?
so maybe what im looking for is not equality but harmony between the sexes? of course i want power to equally be in both male and female hands, and i want males and females alike to receive equal pay but is this equality or harmony?
again, im only trying to learn. this was inspired by many textposts ive seen so if something sounds familiar then you know now. these posts are also kind of milestones for things im learning so thank you for understanding!! also, thank you for reading!!
